How to Pass an Exam Using AI (The Smart Way, Not the Lazy Way

There’s been a lot of negativity around AI lately. Some people say it makes students lazy, will take away jobs, encourage cheating, and even make us less intelligent or creative. While there may be some truth to these concerns, we can’t deny that AI also offers a ton of benefits—especially when it comes to studying.

Today, I’m not here to debate AI’s pros and cons. Instead, I want to share how I’ve used AI (specifically ChatGPT) to supercharge my study process. This method works. It’s effective. And it can make studying 10 times easier while saving you hours of effort.

As someone currently juggling multiple commitments—an MBA, a Master’s in Sports and Exercise Medicine, project management certifications, NHS Leadership Academy training, and three jobs—I’ve learned how to study smarter, not harder. AI has been a game-changer, and in this post, I’ll show you exactly how you can use it to ace your exams.

One of the best ways to remember key concepts is by using mnemonics and acronyms. AI makes this incredibly easy. Simply take your study material and ask ChatGPT to create mnemonics or acronyms that make it easier to remember. For example, if you’re studying how to bake a cake, AI could generate a catchy acronym like “B.A.K.E” (Beat, Add, Knead, Elevate). It’s like making digital flashcards—quick, efficient, and memorable.

Reading through dry lecture notes can be time consuming and so what I do is to give ChatGPT my lecture notes and ask it to create a fun, memorable story around the concepts. This method works wonders because our brains naturally remember stories better than plain facts. Whether you’re studying complex numbers, medical conditions, or business strategies, AI can craft a narrative that makes the information stick.

One of the most powerful ways AI can help study is by predicting potential exam questions. I do this by Uploading my lecture notes to ChatGPT and ask it: "Based on this material, what are some possible exam questions?" AI will then generate a list of likely questions. You can go a step further by attempting to answer them yourself. If you struggle, that’s a sign you need to study more. You can also ask AI to evaluate your answers and suggest improvements, ensuring that by the time exam day comes, you’re fully prepared. I do this all the time and it works wonders

Something I should have mentioned earlier but forgot is that AI can organise your materials into structured, easy-to-follow study guides. Give AI your intended subjected or syllabus and ask it to create a step-by-step study guide. It will break down the content into manageable chunks, helping you stay on track and study more efficiently. This mostly works when you have a subject in mind that you want to study but have no Idea how to go about it. Take for instance that you want to study Dark matter but have no idea where to start from and you have not been given any study materials. you could ask chart GPT to create a study guide for you and this will be structured and easy to follow guide that will help you study with ease

Before I end this as this is becoming long, I would like to add that this same strategy works not just for exams but also for job interviews. Give ChatGPT the job description of the role you’re applying for, and it will generate a list of likely interview questions. You can then practice your responses and even get AI to critique and refine your answers.

AI isn’t a shortcut to avoid studying. It’s a tool to study smarter. By using it to create mnemonics, craft engaging stories, generate practice questions, structure study guides, and even prepare for interviews, you can level up your learning in ways you never thought possible.

Try it out, and if you have any questions, send me an email. I’m always happy to share more tips!
