Influence or Impact: How I Really See Myself

Recently, someone described me as a “sweeter physio influencer.” I understand what they meant, but I would not choose that label for myself. My work has always been about impact, not influence for its own sake.
Steve Jobs once said that the role of the entrepreneur is to make a difference. Am I an entrepreneur? Maybe, maybe not. What I know for sure is that I want to make a difference for the people closest to me. That starts with my family and friends and extends to the wider physiotherapy community. Over the years, I have watched how sharing my journey, my lessons, and my mistakes can shape the paths of other physiotherapists. That is where I am most at home.
I did not set out thinking I had accomplished anything special. It was only after conversations with colleagues and mentors that I realised how far I had come in a short time. People I respect pulled me aside and said, look, what you have done is valuable. Share it. Mentor others. Show them the way. That feedback was a turning point. It is why I leaned into mentoring, created resources, and kept showing up to answer questions honestly.
Out of that desire to serve came PhysioConnect. I am building it as a home for physiotherapists who want to learn, connect, and grow together. A place where we can share ideas, swap practical tools, and support each other through real challenges like career transitions, interviews, and building side projects that actually help patients. I believe community matters. We do not need to do this journey alone.
I am also writing a book that tells my story as a physiotherapist, including the obstacles I faced and the back door method I used to create momentum in my career. I am not claiming to have arrived. I am saying I have seen what works, especially when you are starting from a place that is not perfect, and I want to hand that knowledge to the next person so they can move faster than I did.
For a long time I offered one to one mentorship for free. I enjoyed it, but I learned an important truth. People value what they invest in. Mentorship is time, energy, attention, and experience. I still put out as much free content as I can, but I now reserve deep one to one support for paid programmes so that I can give it the focus it deserves. That balance allows me to keep showing up for more people without burning out.
I also want to be clear about something that often gets lost in the hustle talk. Not everyone needs to be an entrepreneur. Some people want a stable and fulfilling 9 to 5, and physiotherapy can absolutely give you a good life inside that path. Others want to try building products, services, and platforms. Both choices are valid. My role is not to push you into one box. My role is to help you clarify your goals and then equip you with practical steps to get there.
So when someone calls me a sweeter physio influencer, I hear the heart behind it. Maybe they see that I try to communicate in a relatable way. Maybe they notice the warmth and the willingness to share. I appreciate that. But I would describe myself differently. I am a mentor, a builder, and a member of a community that wants to grow together. Influence might happen along the way, but the target is impact. The evidence of success is not likes or views. It is the physiotherapist who lands their first role. It is the clinician who negotiates better pay. It is the colleague who finally believes they can build something of their own and does it.
Over the next few weeks I will share more practical guidance for physiotherapists who want to advance their careers, improve their finances, and design lives that fit their values. If that is your aim, stay close. When PhysioConnect launches, come on board. Bring your questions, your experience, and your hunger to grow. Let us do the work together.
Thank you for reading. If this resonates, share it with a physiotherapist who needs the encouragement today.
